Photos: Honda engine helps heat homes
The amount of heat lost during home heating is a "thermodynamic crime," says Eric Guyer, CEO of Climate Energy, a company looking to commercialize micro-combined heat and power (micro-CHP) systems.
Micro-CHP systems use an on-site engine that burns gas to make electricity for a home. The heat given off during that process is fed into a home's heating system, which makes the system 90 percent energy efficient--far more than typical power-generation or home heating systems.
