Photos: A model bay

From its 1957 construction until 2000, the Bay Model was used by scientists and researchers to examine the effects of human-made changes to the bay. It was also open to the public.

Since the army began using supercomputers to simulate the bay's flow in 2000, the model has become primarily an educational tool for the public.
