Photos: Revisiting the power of the atom bomb
The original copy of the Smyth Report, which was officially titled "A General Account of the Development of Methods of Using Atomic Energy for Military Purposes Under the Auspices of the United States Government 1940-1945." It was written by physicist Henry de Wolf Smyth, who outlined the work of the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos, N.M. Essentially, the report spelled out the basics of nuclear physics. Released not long after the atomic bombing of Japan, "the Smyth Report was intended to control the amount and nature of information on the bomb released to the public," according to a placard at the Atomic Museum in Albuquerque.
