Photos: War games test new battlefield tech
Although the geography of the field is not realistic--encampments are usually housed further apart and over more difficult terrain--Gavin Saunders, a major in the Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment, said the trials have "no smoke and mirrors" and the communications set-up is as it would be on a battlefield. A typical connection speed on the battlefield would be roughly 2Mbps.
"We make people work in the tents so they get an idea of working in the field," Saunders said. Pictured is a satellite dish near one of the tents, which house the 42 technology trials being run as part of the event.
