Photos: How UPS Next Day delivers
At any given time, Worldport can dock 70 heavy jets, including Boeing 757s and 747s, McDonnell-Douglas MD-11s and other planes, though that number will rise to 70 after a planned expansion.
Now, however, the facility handles about 95 jets each night that land, unload their cargo, have a new load put on and then take off for their new destinations.
Though UPS has a fleet of 747s that include nearly 40-year-old 747-100s, it recently purchased brand new 747-400 freighters that are designed to self-diagnose mechanical problems in flight and radio instructions ahead to ground crews that will be able to quickly fix them.
