While I was taking a tour of the network operations center, a pager alert came from ISO New England, which manages power generation and distribution in the region. My tour was quickly detoured as technicians quickly reacted to the event by contacting customers that they would dial down their energy use. In addition to the power grid being over-taxed, an event could also be started by a failed piece of power equipment.
