Many land masses look much different from above, covered by tons of snow and ice, than they do in warmer climates. The Mt. Takahe volcano towers more than 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) above the surrounding ice surface. Antarctica has several older volcanoes that are almost unrecognizable because of the ice flows that crush the features.
