Sony prototypes
Sony displayed its 11-inch and 27-inch OLED TV prototypes at CES 2007. Sony has targeted 2008 for the first mass-market OLED TVs, while others like Toshiba have said 2009 is more realistic. The technology has been talked up for a while, mostly for its potential as a challenger to LCD televisions since the organic material used to power OLEDs has the potential to be cheaper, more energy efficient and provide a very pretty picture. Analysts now say OLED TVs won't likely be a major factor in the television market until at least 2009.
